Intervening Obstacles

Picture
For those who were settling in a new country had minor setbacks such as family ties, the living condition, and cost of travel are all factors that discouraged the Italians from settling in a new country. The living conditions were difficult for Italians, both socially and physically. Italians were racially discriminated, were employed in the dirtiest jobs, and were often clustered in boardinghouses. It was there only way they could make the best out of a bad situation. Longer in the run, they would gain so much more by living in a new country although the conditions they are in are pretty bad.

The work was difficult and limited. For that reason the cost of travel and the cost of settling in a new country was a big obstacle that they soon realized that they would have to face when they decided to immigrate. As a result, many Italians became Sojourners. The Sojourners could barely even afford for their trip to a new country, therefore, their family stayed back at home. They would travel to a new country to make money and send back to their family. Although immigrating to a new country was costly, they still had to migrate just to gain more than what they bargain for.
